Can anyone identify whether the pickguard on this jem is black or see through? I'm thinking black, but I just want to be sure http://vai.com/Mac...

I think those flight of the conchords guys are probably the funniest songwriters around at the moment.
As for Frank Zappa...I dunno.'It can't happen here' always makes me chuckle.

Symphon wrote:best thing is to get guitar pro. Then download the TAB for it. You can then slow the speed down to half speed or Quarter speed.

after you have played at that speed then you build it up
Or better yet, get powertab, which can do the same thing but for free.

Absolutely, yes. It's still Steve's music regardless of whether he plays guitar on it or not. I too am a fan of that thread of personality. I'm a big fan of his guitar playing too, of course, but the reason I'm such a fan of his guitar playing has less to do with his technical prowess and more to do...

of course we listen to stuff that isn't Vai. Why do you think we wouldn't? You'd have to be either stupid or insane to only listen to one artist or band exclusively and nothing else. I don't know anybody who does that.

Yeah, they're also known as polychords. I don't have much experience using them, but I'd also like to experiment with them at some stage. I'm no expert, but my basic understanding of them is thus: When your playing in a certain key, there are a number of chords that will work in that key. Likewise,w...

Yeah, I just discovered and watched those videos today as well. They're sweet. I particularly enjoyed seeing 'a lighter shade of green', plus he gives some really good and useful advice.

Yip, Vai is a great guitarist, for sure. But as a composer? I'd say the scales are tipped towards technique. His jazz harmony is pretty basic, and his knowledge of modern harmony isn't exactly up there with the likes of Ligeti/Boulez/Berio etc ;)) Yip it's a Vai forum, but let's put things in persp...
