Afaik Bigsby's are vibratos and not tremolos.

It doesn't have to be an Epiphone or Gibson model, just a guitar with a similar neck to a Les Paul (nut witdth: 1.68"), and maybe Mahogany just for the complete feel.

I've been playing on both my Ibanez S470 and my Les Paul for several years. I play better on my Les Paul than I do on the S470, this is mainly because of the neck. The frets and the neck dimensions on the Les Paul is perfect, and it makes the S470 seem rugged and unpleasant in comparison. Thing is, ...

Just keep practicing that one solo. Play it over and over again and you'll speed up automatically. Thing is.. the solo kinda grows on you and gets boring after awhile, and thats where improvisation kicks in. Good luck.

Personally I'd recommend a Les Paul to all beginners... though if you want a tremolo guitar you'd better be looking for a good Ibanez.
