Whenever I want to turn someone's head around about Mr. Vai (especially older players who pre-date the shred era), I play "Boy From Seattle" for them. These are guys like me who grew up on Hendrix and the other elder statesmen (Clapton, Peter Green,...), and later maybe SRV and a few others. If ther...

OK, I get it (from reading the other thread about this site). Each key plays a different lick... But alas, it doesn't seem to behave on my slow connection, even after loading the licks. Ah well, something to look forward to elsewhere.

I'm on a dialup connection, so this took forever to load. After going to the first lesson (tapping thing), and waiting about 15 minutes for it to load the lesson and licks, I finally got the message to press A-Z/0-9 on the keyboard. (Meaning press and hold any single key, I presume?). But nothing se...

Yo, Listen up, Jimmy! OK, are you paying attention? Good... here's the deal... I'm 52 years old. That's right, friggin' 52! I've been playing since I was 12. Been in a slew of bands, toured, and have had plenty o' R&R adventures. But most of the time I wasn't really being disciplined in studying gui...

There are a gazillion good chord books. One I discovered a few years ago (from a very good review in Guitar Player magazine) was The Jazz Guitar Chord Bible Complete by Warren Nunes (in the Jazz Master Series by Warner Bros. Publishing). Don't be put off by the "Jazz" in the title -- pretty much any...

Hey Gang, Again, thanks for the tips. I can get both methods to work (hard slamming tap, versus a gentle touch-tap) IF I'm very careful about getting my finger perfectly lined up. That's the key, isn't it? I've heard some people play this tune where the harmonics are barely audible. But like BobDaNo...

Ah, that's pretty much what I was doing, but I was aiming for strings 2-4. So the A-string is being played open but still tapped at fret-14, eh?

Tips for harmonics in "Die to Live"

Greetings, This has probably been discussed before, but I couldn't find it with a search, so... I've been playing "Die to Live" for quite awhile. The tune is pretty straightforward (by Vai standards), but I've never really felt like I was nailing the harmonics in the main riff. I'm referring to the ...
