I don't know about a battle but I saw Steve and Zakk in 1993 during the SNR tour trading licks...Zakk was playing one of Steve's JEM7VWH's

No video though.

Re: steves current mic setup.....

I notice from alot of current tour pics that he seems to be using a (large diaphram) condenser mic on his amp cabs, instead of the traditional instrument mics that most people use. does anyone know if hes close mic'ing them right up on the grill?.....and why? i thought condenser mics were really on...

Pretty Broad question. You can buy a PC running a 1.7 Ghz Pentium Processor, 512Mb of Ram using M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 card using XP as an OS and $300 on Pro-Tools LE M Powered Edition and get 16 to 24 Tracks if your not too intense with Plug-ins., This being a Simple set-up/Starter System. So you...

Steves music is the result of his life. His music and him are so intricately intertwined that it's impossible to separate the two. His music is like a fingerprint of his soul. There is only one Steve Vai. Your individuality is why you don't like everything about everything. Be yourself... and don't ...

9 volts won't make too much a difference, your more likely to have problems with lighting fixtures and your pick-ups. IF you do ever have 120 volt power coming in contact with guitar or any audio line then make sure the cables cross at 90 degree( perpendicular).

If you do a search at the Racer-X site you might be able to track down the powertab of BRO. I did once and generated a midi file to have my keyboard play it with various samples and I could also change the tempomap to a slower speed to play along. Definitely a fun piece.

The techniques change depending on the room, number of people etc... When doing mic setups you best friend is you ears. Walk around what ever you want to record and you'll notice that the quality of the sound changes as you move aroud the room. Drums can be hard because the drums will sound differen...

I still have my Rockan Stereo Chorus.... its untouchable with clean electric guitar. Not even my Lexicons stuff can compete with it. Its vintage now isn't it :)

Cubase or Sonar work just fine and try GigaStudio for your synth needs. You could combine it with one piece of software though, most newer ones do softsynths internally with VST interfaces. You can do tons of great recording with a single mic if you honestly work at developing those techniques. You ...

Ok so you didn't read the history of the site. If you had you might realize the site isn't about fans promoting themselves to the music industry. You misunderstand the purpose of the site. Nothing is flawless, but we stuck to the deadline of 6/6/05. Opinion are fine, but when encroaches on somebody ...

Steve mic's almost exclusivley, he uses Dynamic, Ribbon and large diaphragm condensor mics usually at the same time. He layers alot and sometimes not like on Alien Love Secrets. He doubles the rhythm tracks as a minimum. It would takes a book to completely cover what he does so consider this the red...
