I don't like Satch's new album, it's too bluesy. I liked SWTA, FIABD, and The Extremist.. Crystal Planet and Joe Satriani, they were alright, but there's nothing to interest me in the new album, just sounds like blues to me. And Joe Satriani is the reason I started playing instrumental rock guitar, ...

Its not really because of lack of originality.. more because of what people want to hear. If people go to a pub or club to see a band play, they're more likely to want to hear songs they know already. So tribute bands, and bands playing covers bring in customers. Original bands, they usually only br...

Steve Vai, Ultrazone tour question

I recently watched a recording of TV show that was aired in Bulgaria (I think) from the Ultra Zone tour. While watching, I noticed something about the guitar he was playing... It only had vine inlay up to the 12th fret, and then it was dot markers from there. I thought he was playing a 555, then I l...

It'd take longer than 2 weeks for callouses to go away.
I sometimes don't play guitar for months, and when I pick it up again, I still have callouses and it doesn't hurt to play.
They do soften a little, but they harden up real quick.

Not sure what Steve did, but my advice would be to concentrate on your exams, and let your guitar take a back seat for a while. Lets face it, your exams right now are more important. You'll have the rest of your life to play guitar, you need to make sure you pass your exams... then you can get a goo...

I've been tabbing stuff online for about 5 years now. I'm not gonna mention any site names, cos I don't want to bring any attention to those sites, but I've done it all for free. Occassionally I receive donations from people who have found my tabs helpful, but I've always stressed that I don't want ...

I've got one of the Metropole shows on DVD, and I hope Steve does release it properly... its a really good show, and the orchestra playing along with some of Steve's classic pieces.. adds a whole new dimension.
And 'Kill The Guy With The Ball' live, with orchestration

I'm in kinda the same situation as you at the moment... its been about 3 or 4 months since I've seriously played my guitar. It is a worry.. but as some people have said to me.. guitar isn't the only thing in your life, leave it for a while, and you'll come back to it when you're ready. It was hard f...

I can play Die To Live.... its not all THAT easy... lol... its not fast or complicated or anything, but to actually play it properly with feeling and get the right tone and stuff... that's where it becomes a little more difficult.

Guthrie Govan has a new instructional dvd of Vai out with better songs.... there's a DVD out at the moment by him and Dave Kilminster teaching Tender Surrender, Shyboy, Attitude Song, and For The Love of God. Says its on 2 DVDs... I've only seen it on ebay so far, so not sure what shop you could get...

Well... I'm 24 and I've been playing for about 15 years. As far as Vai and those guys go, I can only play Die To Live, Always, and those tapping songs of Satch like Headless Horseman, Midnight.. stuff like that... those are the only songs I can really play after all those years. Cos I'm too lazy to ...
