Tom
Anderson V.A.I. Prototype
No Serial Number
On the edge of the headstock are the words "Visual
Assault Instrument", and its
not hard to see why. Aside from its very noticeable graphics, this Tom
Anderson guitar features a recessed Floyd Rose tremolo, an early incarnation
of the monkey grip handle, and two-tone DiMarzio pickups. It also has
the Buzz Feiten tempered tuning system, and a hand engraved neck plate
that reads "Made in California by Tom Anderson & Benny
Rodriguez 12-15-86. Graphics: Kelly McGraw." It's also interesting
to note that the bottom cutaway has been shaved back considerably, allowing
greater access to the higher frets.
This guitar was used for much of the Skyscraper sessions -
before Steve began using the Ibanez Jem.
