ALBUM NOTES:
A labor of love for Steve and many years in the making, The Secret Jewel Box was released on December 11, 2001 with three discs
inside: The Elusive Light and Sound; Alcatrazz
- Disturbing the Peace (Re-Mastered), and Archives Vol. 2 - Original
Recordings of Frank Zappa. Though initially shipping with 3 discs, the box holds a total of 10 discs - the remaining 7 CDs will be released
and sold separately over the next couple of years (subsequent releases are noted above.)
Only 10,000 boxes have been made and all 10 of the CDs will
fit into it, spelling out a secret phrase on the CD spines. The box set also comes with three of Steve's guitar picks, and did we mention that there is a secret to this box?

ALBUM NOTES:
On this disc - only available in The Secret Jewel Box
set - Vai reflects here on his three years as a member of Zappa’s
ensemble where he was credited not just as “guitarist” but as
wielder of “strat abuse” and “impossible guitar parts.”
These are original Frank Zappa recordings, written and produced by the late musical
innovator, and authorized by the Zappa Family Trust. The booklet contains the original liner notes for each Zappa track, along
with Steve’s comments on each track.

It's sort of like a golden scrap pile. Devour it with a silver spoon.
Says Steve is this album:
“Traditionally, I have made the 7th song on all my CDs the mellifluous guitar ballad that serves the melody on a silver platter. In numerology, the number 7 is shrouded in mystique. In a record sequence, it has always felt like the sweet spot. These songs are more devotional in nature than technical. They are a reflection of one man’s desire to expose a glimmer of the depth of his longing for spiritual communion.”
The tracks above highlighted in RED are previously unreleased.
